Silver Necklace of Russia to join Novgorod, Pskov and Leningrad regions

Department of Culture and Tourism of Novgorod regionFifteen interregional itineraries were developed in Novgorod region as a part of the Silver Necklace of Russia project, which includes cities of Novgorod, Pskov and Leningrad regions, TASS reports.

The Silver Necklace comprises four cities of Novgorod region, such as Veliky Novgorod, Staraya Russa, Valdai and Borovichi. Tourists can get there from Pskov or from cities of the Leningrad region.

All itineraries inside the Silver Necklace are divided into twelve categories, among them being gastronomic tours, spiritual tours and many others. For example, Bus tour called the Northern Guards of Rus joins Pskovo-Pechorsk monastery, Izborsk fortress, Pskov and Veliky Novgorod.

The longest trip around northwestern cities encompasses Staraya and Novaya Ladoga, Staraya Russa, the Pushkin places in Pskov region, Vyborg and famous palaces located at the outskirts of Saint Petersburg. The tour takes nine days.

Wider transportation availability facilitates tourist development in this region. Lastochka electric train has recently connected Veliky Novgorod and Petrozavodsk. The electric train is linked to the high-speed train Sapsan, which goes between Moscow and Saint Petersburg, tourists from these cities can take it.
The Silver Necklace is planned to become as popular as Golden Ring of Russia. The project started two years ago. It includes all regions of North-Western Federal district.
