Presidential Administration of Russia
Writer and honorary citizen of St. Petersburg Daniil Granin died at the 99th year of life, TASS reported. According to city administration press service, St. Petersburg mayor Georgy Poltavchenko has already directed to organise the writer's funeral.

Daniil Granin was born in 1919. In 1941 he volunteered to the front in the division of the People’s Militia. He was first published in 1949.

“the Searchers,” “Going to storm”, “Garden of stones”, “Month upside down”, and his other works are devoted to the scientific exploration and the struggle between honest scientists and bureaucrats. Written in 1977-1981 together with Ales Adamovich the famous “Blockade book” raises the Great Patriotic War and the Leningrad siege topics.

Granin has received many government awards in Russia and abroad. Let us remember that one month ago Vladimir Putin has handed the State prize of Russia to Daniil Granin not during the Russia Day in Moscow but in St. Petersburg as exception due to the writer's health condition.
