Spokeswoman of Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Maria Zakharova left an emotional comment on her Facebook page that “Kiev’s political regime is off and rolling” after Ukraine’s ban to wear St. George ribbon, TASS informs.
State Duma Deputy Leonid Kalashnikov gave an ironic comment addressed to his colleagues from Kiev that the Ukrainian authorities would want to forbid the sun tomorrow. Kalashnikov added that the Ukrainian authorities’ actions remind him of Nazi regime.
However, some deputies of Ukrainian Oppositional Block, for example, Nestor Shufrich, criticized the accepted law as well and reminded the people who voted for it that St. George Ribbon and St. George Order were initially awards of the Russian Empire and many Ukrainians were awarded with them having written their names in the war history.
Shufrich has claimed that authorities use the scandal around St. George ribbon to distract attention of citizens from existing problems, which are serious and require an immediate solution.
As per Russkiy Mir Foundation, Ukrainian Parliament banned using St. George ribbon at the territory of the country justifying this decision that the ribbon became “an instrument for destabilization of the situation in the country”. Wearing the ribbon in public will be fined from now on. The fine will be about 85 US dollars.
