Mikhail Pletnev celebrates his 60th Birthday

Famous musician Mikhail Pletnev turns 60 today. He started his succesful career as a pianist winning in multiple prestigious competitions, including 6th International Tchaikovsky Competition and Youth Musiciangs and Paris Piano competition for youth. Beginning from 1980s Pletnev started conducting. In 10 years he founded Russian National Orchestra that was actually the first independent orchestra in Russia's history. This orchestra has very quickly become one of the most recognized Russian orchestras around the world. RNO continues to perform under his leadership.

Pletnev received many awards, including four State awards. He also has received the most prestigious in the world Grammy Award in 2005 for the excellent Chamber Orchestra recording of Prokofiev’s Cinderella with Martha Argerich.

His musicianship encompasses a dazzling technical power. Being in three roles, as pianist, conductor and also composer Mr Pletnev reached very high level of creativity in all those fields.

Prime Minister of Russia Dmitry Medvedev brought his sincere congratulations naming Pletnev one of the most outstanding living musicians, and marked that “while interpreting as a pianist or conductor, Pletnev becomes co-author of the music he plays”.

Russian National Orchestra under Mikhail Pletnev performs in Columbia capital. Here, in Bogotá maestro will celebrate his jubilee.
