“Last week we found out that Ukraine put a ban on Julia Samoilova's entry who was chosen to represent Russia at the Eurovision-2017 in Kiev. And I was very touched by this story,” says in her Change.org petition world-renown model Natalya Vodyanova. 62,000 people have already signed the petition.

According to Vodyanova, the singer became the hostage in political games, and the prohibition on entry violates all the procedural Eurovision rules as well as rights of Samoylova as a person and musician. The supermodel calls out the citizens of Russia and Ukraine to speak with one voice and support Julia.

Ukraine protested against the visit Samoilova in connection with her speech in the Crimea in 2015, and statements about the Russian-Ukrainian conflict in social networks. Were also rejected and the possibility of remote presence of the singer at the competition on video.

“This year Eurovision puts a stress on the inclusive dimensions and diversity. This mission is absolutely great, and it makes even more obvious the discrepancy of the Eurovision statement and reality,” states Vodyanova.

The letter is addressed to the European Broadcasting Union, President of Ukraine Petr Poroshenko, and the head of the First TV Channel in Russia Konstantin Ernst.

Let us remind you that Ukraine’s authorities banned Julia Samoilova from entering the country for singing in Crimea in 2015.
