Ukraine can lose right to host Eurovision because of Yulia Samoilova

30.03.2017

The decision of Ukraine to ban Russian singer Yulia Samoilova from participation in Eurovision can cause deprivation of the right to host the European song contest. This statement was made by the General Director of the European Broadcasting Union in Geneva Ingrid Deltenre in her interview to one of the Swiss newspapers, RIA Novosti reports. She has explained that the situation is to be resolved not later than next week.

“Such behavior is absolutely unacceptable. I deeply regret, that “Eurovision” is involved in political games of power”, Deltenre claimed. She also reminded that the contest should unite people instead of separating them.

According to the head of the European Broadcasting Union, currently participation of the Russian singer is being discussed at the highest level. Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko is also taking part in the negotiations.

As per the Russkiy Mir Foundation, the Security Service of Ukraine banned wheelchair-bound 27-year-old singer to enter the territory of the country. The indicated reason for that ban was visit of the Yulia Samoilova to Crimea last year.
