A Russian language center will appear in Sri Lanka, Interfax reports. The Ural State Economic University (USEU) plans to open it. This issue is already being discussed with the country's authorities and is in the final stages of preparation. The center will operate at the University of Sri Jayawardenepura site.
The issue of studying the Russian language was discussed during a meeting between the acting rector of USEU Roman Krasnov and the dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences of the Sri Lankan university. According to Roman Krasnov, the new project of the Russian university is very large-scale.
The Center for the Study of Russian Language and Culture began operating in the capital of Sri Lanka in the summer. It was opened by the Chuvash State Pedagogical University at the Gampaha Wickramaranchchi University of Traditional Medicine.
The Sri Lankan authorities are interested in developing the study of the Russian language on the island, said the governor of the country's Eastern Province, Senthil Thondaman. He recalled that the flow of tourists from Russia to the country is increasing, so the Russian language in Sri Lanka is increasingly needed. According to him, it is necessary to expand cooperation in the field of studying the Russian language.
