Egypt thanked Russia for the assistance it provides in creating nuclear energy in the country, TASS reports.

The head of the department of Egypt's Nuclear Power Plants Authority, Said Sadah Alvin Motiaser Ali, called Russia's assistance priceless. He spoke during the African Energy Week, which takes place in South Africa.

According to him, the construction of the El-Dabaa nuclear power plant (NPP) continues, all established deadlines are being met. He is confident that the NPP has become a school where Egyptian specialists in the field of nuclear energy are trained. In addition, the construction of the NPP has a positive effect on the development of local industry. Egyptian enterprises are chosen to fulfill orders.

Rosatom representative Kirill Komarov noted that the construction of the first NPP in any country makes it possible to solve a whole range of issues. This is not just construction; at the same time, new services and industrial sectors are being created.

Russia began building the first nuclear power plant in Egypt last summer. The El Dabaa NPP is located on the Mediterranean coast, in the province of Matrouh. Rosatom will not only build a nuclear power plant, but will also ensure supplies of Russian nuclear fuel for the entire life cycle of the NPP. The organization will also conduct personnel training and provide Egyptian partners with support in the operation and maintenance of the El Dabaa NPP during the first decade of the station’s operation.
