Russia will host 1st sports contest of CIS countries for children with disabilities

Children with disabilities from the CIS countries will take part in the winter sports contest, which will be held next year, TASS reports. Russia will host the first tournament. According to Alexei Morozov, Deputy Minister of Sports of the Russian Federation, the decision to hold the Olympics was previously made at a meeting of the Council of Heads of Government of the CIS.

It is planned that the Games will be held every four years. The first Winter Games will be held in 2024, the Summer Games -  in 2026.

The program will unite competitions in sports for the blind, sports for persons with intellectual disabilities, sports for the deaf and sports for persons with musculoskeletal disorders. They will compete for sets of medals in cross-country skiing, biathlon, alpine skiing, curling, snowboarding, sledge hockey. Nearly 200 people will be invited from each country.

Alexei Morozov recalled that Russia supports the principle of openness towards participants. At the same time, the decision to invite delegations from countries that are not members of the CIS will be taken by the council, he stressed.
