Russian classics replaced foreign authors in the list of the most published books. According to the results of the first half of 2023, works by Fyodor Dostoevsky and Korney Chukovsky are leading in the ranking, RBC reports. They were ahead, in particular, of Stephen King and JK Rowling, who were previously popular with Russians.

The analysis of the literature market was carried out by the experts of the Russian Book Chamber. They noted that Stephen King had fallen from 1st place to 6th, and the circulation of his books had decreased from one million to 240,000 copies. Previously, King had been at the top of the rankings since 2019, and for two years before that he was in the 2nd place.

Dostoevsky, who was in 2nd place last year, is in the lead right now. The circulation of his works exceeded 450,000 copies. 2nd place went to Agatha Christie. On the third - Russian writer Anna Potapkina, known under the pseudonym Anna Jane.

Korney Chukovsky became the most published children's author, publishing houses printed more than 630,000 copies of his works. Alexander Pushkin is on the 2nd line. The top three was closed by the author of fairy tales and educational aids Elena Ulyanova. The favorite of the past years, J. K. Rowling, did not enter the top 20 of the most published authors.

Analysts note that after the start of the military special operation in Ukraine, a number of foreign writers, including Stephen King, decided not to renew contracts with Russian publishers. At the same time, publishers record an increase in interest in classical literature, in particular in the works of Tolstoy, Dostoevsky, Remarque. The Eksmo-AST publishing group reported that in the first half of 2023, compared to the same period in 2022, the segment of fiction grew by about 8%.
