The Russian President Vladimir Putin called the attack on the Kakhovka hydroelectric station, which led to its destruction, a barbaric action of the Kyiv regime, RIA Novosti reports. He said this during a telephone conversation with Turkish leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Wednesday, June, 7.

Putin noted that Kyiv is betting on the escalation of hostilities. He called it dangerous, and the Ukrainian authorities are acting at the suggestion of Western curators. They "commit war crimes, openly use terrorist methods, organize sabotage," the head of state stressed. He clarified that the destruction of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station led to "a large-scale environmental and humanitarian catastrophe."

Shelling from Ukraine on the night of June, 6 led to the destruction of valves at the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station. According to the mayor of Novaya Kakhovka, Vladimir Leontiev, the station was not blown up, but the surface structures were destroyed, an uncontrolled discharge of water began, which continues to undermine the dam. An emergency regime was introduced on the territory of the Novokakhovsk urban district.

The Russian Foreign Ministry is sure that the terrorist attack that Kyiv staged was directed against the civilian population. Ukrainian troops carried out a massive shelling of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station, and also increased the discharge of water at the Dnieper hydroelectric power station so that the level of flooding reached a critical level.

The Investigative Committee of Russia opened a criminal case on the fact of committing a terrorist act that caused significant property damage and other grave consequences.
