The merit of liberating the territory of Slovakia during the Second World War mainly belongs to the Red Army, reminded the President of the country Zuzana Chaputova. She stated this during a speech as part of a memorial ceremony in honor of the citizens of Czechoslovakia who died in the war. The ceremony took place on May, 8, the Izvestia newspaper reports.

According to the president, Slovakia and other Eastern European countries were liberated primarily by Soviet soldiers with the participation of local resistance fighters, the 1st Czechoslovak Army Corps and the Romanian army.
