A photo exhibition dedicated to the Siege of Leningrad began to work in the Romanian capital, the Russian Foreign Ministry reports. Historical photographs are presented on large street stands in front of the Russian Embassy.

Residents of Bucharest can see pictures of the besieged city, its defenders and residents during the years of great trials. Despite all the unthinkable difficulties, hunger and constant shelling, people continued to live, work and fight. Today, the inhabitants of besieged Leningrad are an example of the greatest courage and resilience.

The opening of the exhibition was timed to January, 18 - this day marks the anniversary of the breakthrough of the siege.

The siege of Leningrad lasted for more than three years, for 872 days. It began on September 8, 1941 and ended on January 27, 1944. Despite the terrible famine, deprivation, cold winters, the inhabitants did not surrender to the enemy.

The exposition in Bucharest will run until the end of the month. Then another one dedicated to the anniversary of the victory in the Battle of Stalingrad will appear in its place.
