Director Karen Shakhnazarov celebrates 70th birthday

On Friday, July 8, the famous Russian director, the head of the Mosfilm film studio Karen Shakhnazarov is celebrating his 70th anniversary, TASS reports.

According to him, he continues to work and is currently going to start shooting a new film. The script is based on the works of Vladimir Gilyarovsky and Arthur Conan Doyle. Stories from the Moscow and Muscovites series will organically merge with stories about Sherlock Holmes. The main characters will be Gilyarovsky himself and the famous theatrical reformer Konstantin Stanislavsky. The director compared the genre of his work with a thriller and a comic detective.

The movie stars Mikhail Porechenkov, who will play the writer, and Konstantin Kryukov, who will play the director. Karen Shakhnazarov hopes that the work will be completed by the end of this year.

Karen Shakhnazarov is the director of such classical films as The Courier, The Jazzman, The Kingslayer. In the recent history of Russia, he was twice awarded the State Prize of the Russian Federation. In 2002 he was awarded the title of People's Artist of Russia. His films have won dozens of awards at European film festivals.
