Six films by the famous Russian film director Karen Shakhnazarov will be screened in Rome as part of a retrospective show. The director and head of the Mosfilm film studio presented his film “Khitrovka. The Sign of Four,” which opened the project “From the Pages of Literature to the Big Screen” in Italy, TASS reports.

Film screenings of Shakhnazarov’s films, shot in different years, will take place until Novemberб 24. The retrospective opened in one of the historical Roman cinemas, the Farnese. Movie goers will see, among other things, film adaptations of works by Russian classics Leo Tolstoy and Anton Chekhov.

One of the films  will be “Ward No. 6” based on the story of the same name by Anton Chekhov. According to Karen Shakhnazarov, many years ago there was a discussion about creating a joint film with Italy based on this work; it was planned to involve the great Italian actor Marcello Mastroianni in the filming.
