Global economy, the consequences of the coronavirus pandemic, health systems and vaccination became the main topics of the first meeting of the G20 summit, according to the website of the President of the Russian Federation. The summit started on Saturday, October 30, in Rome. Russian President Vladimir Putin took part in it online.

According to Putin, the main economic goal is to overcome the problems of inequality. Efforts must be made to increase the well-being of citizens. Vladimir Putin added that Russia had always supported and supports the efforts of the G2 to support the poorest countries.

The president added that now inequality and poverty are problems for many developed countries.

Many countries are still deprived of access to key resources, including vaccines. In many respects, the responsibility for this lies with unfair competition, protectionism, Vladimir Putin stated.

The World Health Organization should speed up the process of evaluating new vaccines, the president added. The sooner this is done, the faster the global business recovers.

Putin proposed to work out the issue of mutual recognition of national vaccine certificates as soon as possible.

Russia was the first in the world to register a COVID-19, the Russian leader noted. Sputnik V has already been approved in 70 countries and demonstrates high safety and efficiency. The one-component drug Sputnik Light has also been created in Russia; it can be used to increase the effectiveness of other vaccines. The president noted that large-scale tasks to combat coronavirus require improving the quality and availability of medical care in all countries and, accordingly, increasing international cooperation in the field of healthcare.

Vladimir Putin also recalled the energy crisis. He stressed that the sustainability of global energy markets directly depends on the responsible actions of all its participants.
