Chess players from the Russian national team won gold medals at the World Chess Olympiad, which, due to the coronavirus pandemic, was held online instead of face-to-face competitions scheduled for August in Moscow. On the way to the finals, the Russians beat the world's leading teams, TASS reports.

The finals of the Olympiad were spoiled by Internet connection raptures, which caused the organizers of the competition to split the victory between Russian and Indian chess players, although the Russians were leading in the score after two starting meetings. The International Chess Federation (FIDE) has decided to award both teams after the Indian appeal.

Forty leading national teams of the world took part in the Olympiad, they were divided into four groups. The Russians made a claim to win the tournament, becoming the first in their group. After that, the national team beat the teams of Hungary and the USA on the way to the final.
