Russian President Vladimir Putin called the Russian language the great heritage and the foundation of the national identity. He said this at a meeting with cultural figures, which took place on Saturday, June 6, during a videoconference. The meeting was timed to the Day of the Russian Language and Pushkin Day, according to the Kremlin website.

The head of state noted that the Russian language unites all the peoples of the country. It is unique in its figurativeness, accuracy, clarity, beauty and expressiveness. Perhaps this is the secret of the appeal and grandeur of Russian literature and the whole Russian culture, which the whole world admires and which is the standard for many genres of world art.

The President congratulated his fellow citizens on Russian Language Day and Pushkin Day. He recalled that Alexander Pushkin is the property of world culture, and the Russian language is one of the official languages of the UN. Vladimir Putin noted that over the months of self-isolation, Russian culture has proved its viability and openness to society. In difficult conditions, cultural institutions have done everything possible to support people so that cultural life in the country is not interrupted.

Vladimir Putin assured that the state will definitely support the cultural industry. It is planned to make adjustments to national projects, including the Culture national project. All solutions will be worked out in direct contact with specialists. The President invited experts to jointly work out steps to normalize the work and actively develop museums, theaters, circuses, exhibition and concert halls, libraries, art schools, and cinema in the future.

On June 6, the world celebrates the International Day of the Russian Language, established by the UN ten years ago and dedicated to the birthday of Alexander Pushkin. Admirers of the Russian poet in Russia and many countries around the world celebrate the birthday of the classic in full-time and virtual formats.
