The festival of Russian culture in Japan is postponed, TASS reports The large-scale event has turned into a good tradition over a decade and a half of its existence. The forum will open in the summer.

The opening concert was to take place at the end of next week, April 14. Unfortunately, the spread of the coronavirus pandemic forced the organizers to postpone it to June 17. Performers from the St. Petersburg House of Music and violinist Mayuko Camio will play for the Japanese public. The festival is very popular in Japan. It acquaints locals with ballet, music, theater, circus and other manifestations of Russian culture. The current forum was dedicated to the Year of Russian-Japanese interregional and twin-city exchanges.

Earlier, the Japanese Foreign Ministry stated that the opening ceremony was also postponed. The statement said that the parties agreed to coordinate organizational arrangements, but the spread of coronavirus infection made preparation difficult.

Moscow and Tokyo agreed that the ceremony would take place in a period convenient for both parties and taking into account the circumstances associated with the spread of coronavirus. It is not planned to move the ceremony to another city yet.

The decision to hold the Year of Russian-Japanese interregional and twin-city exchanges was made after the meeting of the two countries' leaders Vladimir Putin and Shinzo Abe, which took place last summer in Osaka. The Russian president then announced that the events of the Year would expand the cooperation of the Russian regions with the prefectures of Japan and would positively affect the relations between the two states.
