Germany hosts festival of Russian culture

The classical features of Soviet and Russian cinema is screened in the framework of the Russia visiting Essen traditional festival, which will be held from November 23 to 27. 

The large film program is dedicated to the 95th anniversary of the Mosfilm film concern and the centenary of the All-Russian State Institute of Cinematography. There will also be exhibitions, concerts and performances of dance groups from Russia, according to Russkoe Pole.

Viewers have the chance to watch Andrey Rublev by Andrei Tarkovsky, Winter Evening in Gagra by Karen Shakhnazarov and other classical films, as well as the new film by Vladimir Khotinenko -  The Lenin Factor. The director will personally present his work at the festival.

The festival opened with the History of the Volga Germans Republic exhibition, an exhibition of contemporary Russian icons will also be held. Concerts of classical music and dance are planned, events are held in the largest concert halls of Essen, as well as local museums, universities and gymnasiums.

The festival of Russian culture is held in Essen for the sixteenth time, over the years it has become an important part of the cultural program of the city and region. Every year during the festival, Essen gathers Russian compatriots and Germans from different regions of the country. For sixteen years, large figures of Russian culture have visited the place - Nikita Mikhalkov, Yuri Bashmet, Karen Shakhnazarov and others.
