Defence Ministry proposed to establish Day of Russian America

Ministry of Defence of the Russian Federation came with initiative on organising another memorable Day – Day of Russian America on July, 19, IA SeverInfo informs. Exactly on this day in 1799 Emperor Paul I  issued decree about creating Russian-US company that will explore Alaska.

According to the Ministry representatives this date can help strengthening our bilateral relationship between Russia and the US in cultural diplomacy field.

As we informed before, Russian-American conference became an annual tradition. Politicians, culture figures, experts in different fields, journalists and political scientists from both countries participate in it. The forum includes discussions and seminars on substantive issues on the bilateral agenda, discussions of the economic issues, and interactions in different fields.

Russkiy Mir reported, Fort Ross is a former Russian settlement and fortress, it currently has the status of a historic California state park and a national landmark. The fort, located on the steep Pacific coast, was founded at the beginning of the nineteenth century by the tradesman from the county town of Totma, Vologda province, Ivan Kuskov.
