Valery Gergiev opens Wagner festival

One of the oldest music festivals in Bayreuth opened with performance of Wagner's opera Tannhäuser conducted by Valery Gergiev on July, 25, IA Regnum reported. The festival is more than 100 years and counting. 

The 1845 romantic opera is staged by renown German director Tobias Kratzer and stage designer Rainer Sellmeier.  US singer Stephen Gould performed the main part. Russian singer Elena Zhidkova, as Venus, earned the strongest applause for her powerful performance. 

Audience was thrilled by the performance. There were some public figures among spectators, including German Chancellor Angela Merkel, the head of Bavarian authority Marcus Söder, former German Chancellor Gerhard Schröder. Another performance of Wagner's opera on July, 28 and August, 13,17, 21, and 25.
