Residents of Austria remember the Soviet soldiers who died during the fighting in the country and made a great contribution to the liberation of Austria from Nazi invaders. Austrian President Alexander Van der Bellen stated this in his interview with TASS.

Austrian leader gave an interview to Russian media on the eve of the first Russian-Austrian forum Sochi Dialogue, which will open on May 15. Almost a year ago, heads of the two states established this forum, which will make it possible to intensify communication between diplomats, specialists in various fields and representatives of the civil society of Russia and Austria.

According to Alexander Van der Bellen, about a hundred thousand Soviet soldiers and officers were killed in battles for the liberation of Austria. Head of state assured that everyone knows about the contribution and victims of the USSR in Austria. In addition, this is reminiscent of a monument to Soviet soldiers-liberators, installed on the Schwarzenbergplatz square in Vienna. Austrian President called the monument majestic.

Note, the authorities of Vienna and Austria promptly respond to vandal actions regarding the monument to Soviet soldiers-liberators. The consequences of such criminal actions are quickly eliminated, and the police are investigating each of the episodes. At the end of April, surveillance cameras were installed near the monument to help reduce the number of vandal attacks on the monument.
