Moscow Maslenitsa festival welcomes guests

Moscow Maslenitsa festival starts in Moscow on March 1. Its program will last 10 days. Residents and guests of metropolis are invited to visit more than two dozen venues with colourful shows, cooking classes and many other events. Guests can taste hundreds of varieties of pancakes, from classic ones with butter or sour cream to black pancakes with cuttlefish ink. 

Four festival venues will appear in the city center, eleven to be located in other districts, eight will open in parks. Guests can attend sports events, outdoor games, concerts and theatrical performances. Everyone can watch live broadcast of the festival on the Internet. 

For the first time on Moskovskaya Maslenitsa, visitors will be treated with Arabic spring rolls, which are cooked in Egypt, Lebanon and Syria, Czech twisted pancakes “palacchinki”, Swedish pancakes “ragmunk”, which means “hairy donut”. 

Eleven culinary schools will open, where young visitors will learn to cook a variety of dishes under the supervision of experienced chefs. Each school has its own name and thematic menu. Master classes on handicrafts are planned. 

As part of the festival program, a series of free tours began in Moscow from February 23. Guests are led to places that are associated with the names of famous artists. Pedestrian walks along Tverskaya street, Arbat, Shabolovka, Ostozhenka, Volkhonka are offered. 

The administration of Moscow prepared over two hundred volume-decorative structures, partially redesigned from New Year's light compositions. Numerous parks are decorated with light images of samovars, pancakes and tea sets.
