Friday, February 8 marked 185 years since the birth of great scientist Dmitri Mendeleev. His name was glorified by the discovery of periodic law, but he was an encyclopedic scholar. Along with chemistry, he was interested in economics, physics, geology, meteorology, and designing instruments.

As Russkiy Mir reported, the UN General Assembly declared 2019 the International Year of Mendeleev’s Periodic Table. Various events dedicated to the 150th anniversary of the Mendeleev Periodic Table will be held in honor of famous scientist in Russia.

Dmitri Mendeleev was born in Tobolsk. He was the 17th child in the family.

After graduating from gymnasium, he headed to enter the Moscow University. After he finished it successfully, the future scientist went to Europe, where he was doing research at the University of Heidelberg. In 1889, he took his doctorate degree, continued his scientific work and made a number of discoveries in various fields of science.

It should be recalled that, according to Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev, Russia should make every effort to popularize the name of the scientist. According to chemists, no one disputes the discovery of a table of chemical elements by Dmitry Mendeleev in the West, but it is called the Periodic Table or the Periodic Law there.
