Russian field engineers cleared more than 32 hectares of jungle in Laos, RIA Novosti reports. The defense department explained that the soldiers demined the area of the south-eastern part of the country finding large number of bombs. Laos was bombed by the United States in 1960-1970s.

A group of the International Mine Action Center arrived in Laos in mid-October. Russian miners began to clear the area. To do this, they use the cutting-edge search tools.

Earlier Russkiy Mir reported the country's authorities to have stated that the operation was essential for ensuring the safety of the civilians in Laos. In addition, the demining of territories will help the development of the country both in the economic and social spheres.

The Russian group of 36 people is planned to continue to work in Laos for five months. During this time, the Russian military cleared the area around the city of Lac Sao located 350 kilometers from the state capital. The cleared jungle territory extend for hundreds of hectares. The main difficulty is the fact that it is necessary to look for explosive objects that are not on the surface of the earth but in the ground.
