Russian tennis player Karen Khachanov beat Novak Djokovic at the final of the ATP World Tour Masters 1000, TASS reports. The tournament was held in the capital of France. Their game on November 4 ended with a score 7: 5, 6: 4. The 22-year-old Muscovite who used to be on 16th position in the world ranking, jumped five lines up to become the 11th.

Khachanov terminated a series of Djokovic’s two dozen victories.

The Russian had to play against three top ten rivals to get to the final.

For the first time in nine years, a Russian won the ATP World Tour Masters. Nikolay Davydenko gained the victory in 2009. A young athlete won the Masters for the first time in his career.

Novak Djokovic believes that it was a well-earned victory. In his opinion, Karen Khachanov has just started his successful career.

For the first time in a long period two Russian tennis players have entered the ranking. Along with Khachanov, Daniel Medvedev got into the first twenty of the ranking.

The President of the Russian Tennis Federation Shamil Tarpishchev noted that the success of Khachanov and Medvedev this season demonstrated that the men's tennis started to prosper in Russia.
