Russian scientists Koonin and Linde get 2018 Gamow Prize in USA

Outstanding scientists Eugene Koonin and Andrey Linde have been awarded with the Gamov RASA-America. The prize is presented to Russian-speaking scientists. Chair of the 2018 Gamow Award Committee Professor Vadim Gladyshev presented the awards of the Russian-American Science Association, TASS reports.

Eugene Koonin leads the Evolutionary Genomics Research Group of the US National Library of Medicine. He was awarded for fundamental contributions to evolutionary biology. Professor of physics at Stanford University Andrei Linde was appraised for pioneering the inflationary universe theory. Gladyshev praised the contribution of colleagues to the development of these scientific areas. Moreover, the scientists got the statues - a hand holding a brain on its palm, the sign symbolizing scientific achievements.

According to Russkiy Mir, within the conference the scientists from several countries took the floor covering various scientific aspects. At the opening of the conference, Russian Ambassador to the US Anatoly Antonov, invited compatriots to cooperate more actively with colleagues in Russia. He assured Russia to provide opportunities for scientific work. The Ambassador also noted the big contribution of Russian compatriots living abroad to the development of Russian science.
