Sergey Lavrov informs OSCE on human rights breach in Ukraine

02.11.2018

The OSCE needs an accurate assessment of the situation in Ukraine over the observance of linguistic, educational and religious rights and freedoms, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said after the meeting with OSCE Secretary General Thomas Greminger, TASS reports.

According to the foreign minister, the Russian side once again drew the OSCE attention to the fact that Kiev has no will to change its policy directed to the Minsk agreements breakdown. Moscow also urged to pay close attention and assess the destructive actions of the Ukrainian authorities.

There is no doubt that such policy contradicts to the Kiev's obligations and the Ukrainian constitution, Sergey Lavrov adds.

The parties had a detailed discussion on political settlement of the Donbass conflict. They agreed that there is no alternative to Minsk-2.

The head of Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs claims that Western leaders talk about human rights violations only during meetings with the Ukrainian top officials shrinking a public discussion of this issue. Thus, Kiev has a sense of impunity.

Countries that may influence Kiev’s decisions have more opportunities to prevent human rights breach, Sergey Lavrov assures.

There is no doubt that the West is responsible for the Ukrainian authorities' actions because Europe supported the coup d'état in the country.

Thomas Greminger reiterated the OSCE’s concern over the arrest of Russian journalist Kirill Vyshinsky.
