Russia urges OSCE to influence Kiev's actions backing extremists

OSCE

Moscow draws OSCE’s attention to Kiev's activity that contradicts international standards of religious freedom, TASS reports.

The representative of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) Darya Mosina stated this at the OSCE human dimension implementation meeting. It takes place in the Polish capital.

The Russian diplomat recalls that the fight against religious intolerance, racism, xenophobia and aggressive nationalism still has an important place in the OSCE activities.

Russia is deeply concerned by the situation in Ukraine. The country's leadership practically does not hide the connivance of the right-wing radical organizations activities, the MFA official claims. Extremists capture Orthodox churches, attack priests and parishioners. Kiev is trying to limit activities of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, the largest confession in Ukraine, and seeks to split the church communities.

Daria Mosina reminded that the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church had never demanded autocephaly and statements about this would lead to a greater split in the Ukrainian society and more tension.

As Russkiy Mir reported, the Russian Orthodox Church was also confident that granting autocephaly to the Ukrainian schismatics would lead to violence and aggression.
