Polenov and Repin’s memorial plaque to be set at Montmartre

A memorable plaque in honor of the two great Russian painters is to appear in Paris, Myslo website informs. The plaque will honor Vasily Polenov and Ilya Repin. 

The memorial plaque will decorate the building No. 31 at Verone Str. of Montmartre.Association of Vasily Polenov initiated the memorial plaque. The proposal was approved by the descendants of the both painters and management of the house museums. 

The memorial plaque made of bronze will depict portraits of the painters. The plan is to arrange an opening ceremony of the memorial plaque in October. The painters were good friends since the days of their studies at the Fine Arts Academy. They both won the graduation contest and went to France for three years. In its turn, this trip had a great influence on them as the fine arts masters later. Repin came to Paris in autumn 1873 and rented a workroom at Verone Street. 

Polenov arrived in France a bit later and lived at his friend’s place for almost a month. A mansard with high ceilings and huge windows was perfect for the painters to work in. Unfortunately, the building was not preserved until nowadays and a new building was erected at this place.
