Cannes prize for the Best female performance prize went to the Kazakhstan's Samal Yeslyamova

The Cannes Festival awarded Samal Yeslyamova for the Best female performance in Ayka feature made by Sergey Dvoretsky. The film is a story of a young immigrant from Kyrgyzstan who is forced by difficult life circumstances to abandon her child and illegally work in modern metropolis.

According to the actress, the work on the film set required physical and spiritual forces. She's added that she even didn't dream about a prize. In the first place, she was trying to follow the director's instructions. All the film crew strove to make the great feature, and succeded. 

Italian actor Marcello Fonte won the the Best male performance award for his role in Dogman criminal drama. 

Paweł Pawlikowski received the Best Director award for the Cold War (Zimna Wojna) feature.  The best script award went to Italian director and scriptwriter Alice Rohrwacher for Happy As Lasaro and to the banned Iranian director Jafar Panahi for his new drama Three Faces.   

The main Cannes' prize Palme d’Or went to the Japanese director Hirokazu Kore-eda for his drama about petty thieves Shoplifters, while American Spike Lee’s BlacKkKlansman took the silver-medal, and Lebanese Nadine Labaki’s Capharnaum settled for the bronze.
