Bangkok hosts Nevyansk Icon church art exhibition displaying 12 pieces from the Yekaterinburg museum, reports the Russian Embassy in Thailand on its Facebook page.

Kirill Mikhailovich Barsky, the Russian Ambassador to Thailand gave a welcome speech at the opening ceremony. Businessman from Yekaterinburg A. Bezusov, and Archimandrite Oleg Cherepanin representing the Russian Orthodox Church in Thailand talked about the display and its meaning, while the male choir from St. Nicholas Church in Bangkok performed Orthodox songs.

The Nevyansk Icon occupies a special place in Russian culture, because it has a unique art style. It was first mentioned in the 18th century. The unusual thing about the icon is that semi-precious stones, and gold threads are used in its frame's decorations.

The purpose of the exhibition is a charity. All the money raised will be donated to the national children's health center to help cure the children sick with cancer.
