An exhibition of Orthodox icons has opened in Ficarra, the comune in the Metropolitan City of Messina, according to the Russian Consulate General in Palermo. 40 icons by contemporary  iconographer Paolo Lanza are presented in the Akon Museum.

Paolo Lanza is a great friend of the Russian-speaking diaspora, he works closely with the Moscow State Pushkin Museum. Lanza professed his love for the work of Andrei Rublev, stating that he drew inspiration from it. The collection includes the Vladimir Icon of the Mother of God, the Konevskaya Icon of the Mother of God, and the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God.

The artist uses natural paints, following old traditional recepies: crushed precious minerals and tempera with gold leaf. He often paints on wooden board or the wreckage of old boats.
