08.05.2018

The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation has published historical documents telling about the people and the events that legendary war films were based on. The documents are kept in the Ministry’s archives, the official website reports.

The new multimedia section is dedicated to several people who were the prototypes for the characters of famous Soviet films about the World War II, such as Squadrons ask for Fire, Cank-Clank, Went the Tank, Commander of the Happy Pike, Crew of Combat Vehicle, Night Witches in the Sky.

At the Ministry’s website people interested in the wartime history and Russian cinema can find situation reports and operation record books of different troops.

There are also personal files, commendation lists and wartime photos of the heroes. For example, one of the files contains the portrait of Evdokia Bershanskaya, the commander of the air regiment nicknamed Night Witches by the enemy, and episodes from the film in which Valeria Zaklunnaya played her part.
