Moscow International Film Festival

The 40th Moscow International Film Festival starts in the Russian capital. The gala opening ceremony is to be held in Russia cinema theatre, according to TASS. The movie directed by Ferzan Ozpetek Naples in Veils is to open the festival.

Traditionally, the festival is conducted in summer, however, due to the forthcoming FIFA World Cup, it was decided to shift the event to April. Organizers doubted if it was possible to put together a worthy agenda for such a short period of time, however, as per HR manager of Moscow International Film Festival Pyotr Shepotinnik, the number of qualitative movies exceeded the festival framework.

Organizers have remarked that this year the agenda turned out to be very interesting and unusual. The main part includes 16 films, the rest of the features will be screened in the Spectrum agenda.

Russia will be represented by such movies as Nude directed by the actress Yang Ge, Spitak by Alexander Kott and Zhar-Ptista by Edward Novikov. Talented film directors from Norway, South Korea, France and Belgium are going to take part in the festival.

The expert jury includes world-known actors and film directors: Natalia Kinski, John Savage, Liang Qiao and Anna Melikyan.

The festive closing ceremony will include the part of awarding winners and handing out the prestigious award for contribution into the world cinema.
