Hundreds of fans came out to meet the flight with Russian sportsmen coming back from the Olympics, TASS reports. The plane with figure skaters, skiers and hockey players landed in Sheremetyevo yesterday’s evening. People started to flood into the airport long before that. They came with Russian flags, flowers and balloons. Among them were relatives, friends and fans of sportsmen. Expecting Russian athletes, people sang Katyusha and the Russian national anthem. More than a thousand people gathered at the airport.

Hockey players who brought the Olympic gold for the first time in 25 years were welcomed with loud applauses. A special gift awaited for them, which is a model of Pobeda (The Victory) car of red color. Russian national team took over a nickname The Red Machine from the former Soviet Union ice hockey team who played in the red uniform and almost never lost a game.

Two Russian cross-country skiers Anastasia Sedova and Anna Nechaevskaya got special surprises. Both ladies received proposals of marriage and they both agreed.

Alexander Bolshunov was very heartily met too. No one from Russian or Soviet skiers won so many awards at a time, whereas he got four medals, gaining three silvers and one bronze.
The Head of national Olympic Committee Alexander Zhukov congratulated sportsmen mentioning that they had to perform under very complicated circumstances. He has also thanked all fans for the great support.
