Russian artist nominated for prestigious illustration award

Edward Lear, A Book of Nonsense illustration by Igor Oleinikov Master of Russian illustration Igor Oleinikov is nominated for prestigious The Hans Christian Andersen Awards, Year of Literature website reports.

Short-list splits in three nominations: authors and illustrators. Five writers and six illustrators to compete for the prize.

The Winners to be announced during International Children Book Festival in Bologna, Italia, at the end of March.

The Hans Christian Andersen Awards that was launched more than 60 years ago, is the most prestigious and reputable among other children literature's awards.

Russian illustrator Tatyana Mavrina received the award only once in its history: in 1976. Writers Sergey Mikhalkov and Agnya Barto were presented with honorary diplomas.
