Thousands of archaeological findings discovered in Moscow excavations

Around ten thousand historical artefacts were discovered during excavations in Moscow streets, according to website of the capital’s mayor. Sergey Sobyanin notes that urban maintenance and construction works are always supported by archaeologists. This time they worked on the territory, where Zaryadiye park has recently opened and they are also searching the streets maintained as a part of My street program.

The mayor mentioned that in the territory of Zaryadiye park some Bronze age silicon axes were found. This is the most ancient of the findings.

It is worth reminding that in October a buried treasure of over a hundred coins from Peter the Great’s time was discovered in the center of Moscow. It was found near St. Nicholas church in Bolvanka street. The coins date back to the end of the 17th century. This treasure is the second found in Nizhnaya Radischevskaya street. The first one contained over 40 coins, including two very rare and highly precious ones issued in the times of Vasilii Shuiski.

The findings are preserved and sent to museums. It is also planned to create small open-air archeological museums in the city streets.
