Russian army to have its own aquanauts

04.01.2018

Salvage divers, who would be able to go 400 meters deep have started training in Russia according to the Information and Mass Communication Department for the Russian Ministry of Defense, as reported by Interfax.

Being able to dive 400 meters deep and staying under water for a long time will make it possible to revive the specialty of aquanauts, added the Ministry’s representative.

The training is done by the Research and Development Institute for Salvage and Underwater Technologies together with the mobile rescue party of the Russian Navy. The first stage of the training program will take place at the training facility in the city of Lomonosov, followed by diving practice from the Russian Navy salvage vessels.

Previously the Russian Ministry of Defense demonstrated a pilot protected vehicle Taifun-VDV developed for the Air Landing Troops. The new vehicle is being tested at a special training range.
