Stalingrad in my City! contest for WW2 history buffs

15.12.2017

Stalingrad Battle Foundation has advertised Stalingrad dans ma ville! (Stalingrad in my City!) contest  dedicated to perpetuation of the legendary battle in French cities. Organizers remark that this country occupies the first place in the world by toponymical references of Stalingrad. Surprisingly enough, the French people do not associate this word with Stalin’s personality cult or repressions prescribing the positive connotation only. The toponym is present in 92 towns of France.

Organizers of the contest set an objective to gather historical evidence about eternalizing the deeds in names of streets, lanes, etc. and will be grateful for copies of the archived documents, photos and memoirs of witnesses connected to the toponym Stalingrad in your city. Documents gathered by the contest participants will become a part of exposition Stalingrad in France and will be enclosed into the catalogue of the exhibition.

It is necessary to join Facebook group Stalingrad dans ma ville, to take a photo with a street plate Stalingrad and publish it in the group with a short description about the toponym’s origin and archived documents.

Winners will be awarded with a trip to Volgograd from 7 till 10 of May 2018 sponsored by Stalingrad Battle Foundation.
