More than seventy-five thousand Russian-speaking people inhabit the country, according to the Statistics Center in 2016. Over the last five years number of migrants considering Russian as their native language has increased in average by three thousand people per year. As earlier, the main reason why they moved to Finland was family circumstances. Russian-speaking migrants prefer to reside in the south of the country.

The employee of the Cultura Foundation Alexander Zamyatin has remarked that a bit less than a half of Russian-speaking population live near Uusimaa. Overall, migrants prefer to live in Helsinki and other major cities of Finland. The number of social organizations also grows (now there are about 140 of such organizations). Their activities are directed at support of Russian-speaking residents. However, Russian-speaking population is mainly facing two problems, which are insufficient knowledge of the Finnish language and integration into Finnish society, because its laws and norms are sometimes unclear for some migrants.
