RT Channel US Congress accreditation is revoked

30.11.2017

US Congress accreditation was revoked from RT Television journalists, TASS reports. It was officially done because RT America had registered itself as a foreign agent.

The head of the congressional Radio and Television Correspondents Executive Committee Craig Caplan has demanded that all Russian TV Channel representatives bring their passes back, due to the unanimous voting of committee members for the revoking of RT accreditations on November 21. He has reminded that agents of other countries can't be accredited reminding that this step was "taken in response to the registration of RT Network's operating company, T&R Productions, LLC as a foreign agent."

Let us remember, American branch of Russian state-owned channel RT was pushed to register under the Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA) as a “propaganda from Moscow”. Russian Ambassador in US has commented that this is “not a friendly move.” RT’s editor-in-chief Margarita Simonyan has underlined that this demand is a political censorship from Washington, inconsistent with the idea of democracy and a freedom of speech.

As we reported earlier, Moscow is preparing tit-for-tat response.
