St. Petersburg Dialogue Russian-German forum opens today, on 23d of November, in the capital of Germany, TASS informs. This session is already sixteenth. More than two hundred people from both countries are taking part in the forum. Among them are public figures, businessmen, scientists and figures of culture, leaders of civil society, religious leaders and journalists.
The topic of the forum is Social Involvement as a Way for Understanding between Russia and Germany. Its main purpose is to build constructive cooperation between representatives of all social spheres of the two countries. Saint Petersburg Dialogue reinforces mutual understanding and makes a positive effect on ties between Russia and the European Union.
According to Russian President Vladimir Putin, for one and a half dozen years of its existence, the forum has played the role of the most essential channel for public diplomacy between the two countries. He has reminded that St. Petersburg Dialogue has huge authority in Russia and Germany.
Vladimir Putin is sure that today’s complicated political situation requires sustaining direct contacts between wider circles of civil societies and obtains some special meaning.
Such unofficial exchange of opinions is called to overcome distrust, superstitions and stereotypes as well as to preserve positive potential of partnership and cooperation existing between Russians and Germans over decades, the greeting message of Vladimir Putin states.
