Saint Petersburg residents and guests are invited to get acquainted with Salvador Dali masterpieces, RIA Novosti informs. The exhibition of the great Spanish painter’s works called “Surrealism and Classics” will open in Faberge Museum. It starts at the end of next month.

As museum representative commented, such a major art event takes place in the city on the Neva for the first time. More than 150 Dali artworks, oil paintings and drawings will be presented to the audience. They were provided by Salvador Dali – Gala Foundation from Figueres city, Catalonia. Apart from that, other museums and private collectors will participate in the exhibition.

The exposition will provide a perfect opportunity to trace down creative development of the artist. Dali became famous for his surrealistic paintings at the beginning of 1930s and turned towards the classical European art themes at the beginning of the last century.

The earliest Dali paintings at the exhibition are landscapes created in the middle of 30s. Graphic sketches illustrating biography of Benvenuto Cellini and 100 artworks depicting Divine Comedy of Dante Alighieri will be brought to Saint Petersburg as well.

The exposition will open its doors for visitors for three months, until the middle of summer.
