Washington's actions run counter to efforts aimed at stabilizing relations with Russia, stated the Russian ambassador to the United States, Anatoly Antonov. He has reacted on the coming US sanctions in relation to several Russian companies, RIA Novosti reports.

According to the ambassador, the sanctions are the cause for pulling away from "the prospects for any constructive interaction." He called this approach unacceptable and indicated that it runs against the "Geneva spirit."

Earlier, the US State Department stated that three Russian companies were included in the sanctions list. They were accused of purportedly violating the non-proliferation of means of mass destruction against Iran, North Korea and Syria.

As Russkiy Mir reported, Russian and US Presidents Vladimir Putin and Joe Biden met for the first time in Geneva on June 16. They discussed a number of important issues of bilateral cooperation and agreed to start a dialogue on strategic stability. Meanwhile, US National Adviser Jake Sullivan's has stated to prepare a new set of anti-Russian sanctions right afterwards, which wasn’t a good sign that could be expected after the summit, according to Antonov.
