Russian team wins Sambo World Cup in team scoring

The Russian sambo team won 20 gold medals at the World Championship and came first in the team competition. Competitions were held in the South Korean city of Cheongju. In total, the Russians have 25 medals, including one silver and four bronzes ones, TASS reports.

Russian sambo wrestlers won 20 of the 27 gold medals in the draw. Their closest competitors in the team event, the Mongolian and Ukrainian athletes, won 2 gold awards. The last day of the competition was the most productive for the Russians, they won eight medals, including six gold ones.

In comparison with the last world championship, sambo wrestlers from Russia increased the number of gold awards by five, and the total number of medals increased by one. World Sambo Championships are held annually, the next will be held in November 2020 in Ashgabat.

Sambo is not part of the Olympic family, but in 2018, the martial arts, invented in the USSR in the 1930s to train the military and law enforcement officials, was temporarily recognized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
