Swimmer Ernst Bromeis from Switzerland begins swimming on Lake Baikal on Thursday, July 11, TASS reports. He is going to swim along the eastern Baikal shore.

According to an extremal athlete, he chose Kultuk village as the starting point. Then the route is laid to the north, past the delta of Selenga River and the Holy Nose Peninsula. According to calculations, Bromeis will need two months. He is going to complete the journey in early autumn.

The athlete is going to swim only during the day, in the evenings he will go ashore, to friends accompanying him by car, and spend the night on the ground. The traveler plans to overcome from one to ten kilometers per day. The entire distance reaches 800 kilometers. He takes a waterproof bag with a small supply of food, a sleeping bag and a telephone with him in a waterproof bag.

Bromeis will swim in a special diving suit, because the water in Baikal is cold. He expressed hope that he would be able to become the first person to swim along Baikal along, rather than across.

Bromeis calls himself "the ambassador of water" and says that he is making extreme swims to remind people of how valuable water resources are.
