Russian researchers created a virus capable to destroy cancerous cells, reports the Izvestiya. People with cancers in brain and sympathetic nervous system can be treated with medication developed based on original nonrecoverable virus. The research was conducted by experts of Engelhardt Institute of Molecular Biology.

The new medication comes in contact with cancerous cells only, surface of which contains certain protein - plasmolipin.

According to researchers, this is what makes it fundamentally different from most of the drugs existing at the moment. They have strong toxicity and impair healthy cells, which is the reason for the severe condition of patients during chemotherapy.

The development of the medication was based on endogenous retrovirus, previously unknown to science. Effect of the new medication has already been tested on human cells.
