Russia rejoiced: the national team enters ¼ finals of FIFA World Cup

Russian team has entered the ¼ finals of the FIFA World Cup – 2018 having left behind the Spanish rivals after the penalties, TASS reports.

A winner was not clear at the main time and additional time of the game: the match ended up with the score of 1:1. Sergei Ignashevich playing for Spain opened the scoreboard at the 12th minute. Artem Dzyuba managed to equal the score at the 41st minute hitting the 11th-meter goal.

Russia appeared to be stronger during the penalty series with the score of 4:3. Fedor Smolov, Sergei Ignashevich, Alexander Golovin scored the goals. Denis Chernyshev hit the last goal into the Spanish gates brining victory to Russia.

Russian goalkeeper Igor Akinfeev was acknowledged the best player. He managed to beat two after-match penalties back.

The match was held at Moscow’s stadium Luzhniki. The honored guests were Russian Prime Minister Dmitri Medvedev with wife, FIFA President Gianni Infantino and the King Philip of Spain. The number of spectators exceeded 78 000.

Our footballers are to meet with winners of the match between Croatia and Denmark. The game is to take place a week later in Sochi.
